In Celebration of a Courageous Life

FOR CARLA

Third gray day,

blowing rain,
plummeting temps.
Even so,
down my hill,
stalwart trees laugh and
shake their golden heads,
resplendent in
glorious garb.

One day when
I awaken to
barren branch,
I’ll be warmed by
memory of
her
courageous
dance.

She celebrates in
loftier climes
today.
