I think most of us agree that the way we view our circumstances can make or break the day. Yesterday, when I awakened early to a gray landscape, I wrote this:
The day threatens rain. Gray clouds hug the horizon. The river stretches along the valley like an old silvered mirror, its surface reflecting the somber landscape.
Everything.
Everywhere.
Dismal.
In my yard, one branch of holly—winter’s balm—peeks from behind the oak, pointing down to God’s surprise. Tender grass sprouts in the drab lawn bringing purpose to whatever rain might fall.
Even so, what a pleasant surprise when the sun came out.
Nourish the earth—nourish me,
O, You, Who established the seasons.
Green up my soul and
Let Your life burst forth as
I go about this day.
Even when the morn breaks somber,
You are with me.
Even when my soul feels bleak,
You reveal Your life
If I but shift my gaze.
Where are you looking today?
The earth is the Lord’s, and the fulness thereof; the world, and they that dwell therein. Ps. 24:1

I'm a lover of God, mother of three, grandmother of eight, and a collector of friends. I like nothing better than talking, listening, laughing and eating with that crowd. My husband, Terry, and I feel blessed to wake up each day to a magnificent view of the Arkansas River. An amazing variety of creatures, from bobcats and coyotes to deer, bunnies and nutria, along with all sorts of birds roam the natural area behind our house. We also share our home with three silly kitties. I often find a lesson in what I see both indoors and out on any given day and usually find myself writing about it. I hope you'll join me in exploring the ways God speaks to us through His creation.

So good. I think so many of us feel the same way when a day forecast to be sunny looks so dreary in the beginning. Thanks for putting it so well for all of us who were so thankful when the sun came out.
