poetry, Sunrise

 Waking early
before the sun,
I’m greeted by
pastel mares’ tails
drifting across the
brightening sky.
They deepen to rose,
announcing presence
of the fiery orb
hiding beneath the
purple horizon.
First a peek,
then a dome,
in steady progress,
the faithful sun
ascends to rule
another day.
You are my lamp, O Lord, and my God lightens my darkness.2 Sam. 22:29
